Citizens Bank Leads World Hunger Day in Batesville Today; Throwing A ‘Feed the Funnel’ Party to Reduce Hunger

About Us

BATESVILLE – May 28, 2015 – Citizens Bank and other local businesses will host a “Feed the Funnel Party” as a World Hunger Day event today in Batesville.

“We are inviting other groups and individuals to join with us to pack thousands of delicious, healthy, easy-to-prepare meals that will be distributed to hunger relief groups in our area,” said Phil Baldwin, Citizens Bank President and Chief Executive Officer.  “We are encouraging our employees to donate their lunch hour on World Hunger Day to help us pack somewhere between 10,000 and 30,000 meals that will stay in Independence County.”

The “Feed the Funnel Party” will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 85 Batesville Boulevard in the former S&S Liquidation building.

“The Batesville Daily Guard, Flowers Baking Company, Future Fuel, Independence County Abstract, LaCroix Optical, Ladd Eye Center, Lyon College, Peco Foods, the Rogers Family, the Shreve family, State Farm Insurance, UACCB, White River Area Agency of Aging, and WRD Entertainment have agreed to co-sponsor this event and ask their employees to join us,” Baldwin said.  “Together, we will put on groovy hairnets, crank up some awesome music and create thousands of meals in this inaugural ‘Feed the Funnel Party’ in Batesville.”

The event is being held in partnership with The Pack Shack, a Northwest Arkansas-based non-profit organization that specializes in activities to combat root causes of poverty.  The Pack Shack reports that Arkansas currently ranks No. 1 in the nation in terms of food insecurity and hunger.

“There are many in our own community who are in need,” Baldwin said.

Through bulk ordering, the rice and vegetables meals cost only 25-cents per meal, and the Pack Shack estimates that the average person can pack 150 meals an hour.
